Californian Reached Third Round of Australian Open
DELRAY BEACH ITC ADDS AMERICAN TEENAGER SAM QUERREY

Sam Querrey of the U.S. in action during his third round match against Spain's Tommy Robredo at the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne, Fr Delray Beach, FL—Sam Querrey, the 19-year-old American who reached the third round of the Australian Open last week, has received a wild card to play in the upcoming Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.

The ATP event, celebrating its 15th year, will showcase 32 of the world's top men's tennis players, including top American
James Blake, the No. 4 player in the world for 2006 and No. 11 Tommy Haas of Germany, the event’s defending champion. The tournament begins this Saturday (Jan. 27) with qualifying rounds, and the main draw starts Sunday (Jan. 28). The finals are scheduled for 12:00 noon on Sunday (Feb. 4).

Querrey, the Thousand Oakes, Ca. teenager who turned pro last June, has risen in the ATP rankings from No. 615 last January to an expected Top 100 position when the new rankings are released Monday. He went 25-8 in his first six months as a pro and won three Challenger titles.

“Sam is an up-and-coming American and this tournament has a history of seeing breakout appearances from young players,” said tournament director Mark Baron, who gave
Andy Roddick his first wild card into a professional tournament. “This will be a treat for our Delray Beach fans because this young man has a great future ahead of him.”

Querrey, who is 6-6, has been put on the radar by U.S. Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe, who has included the teenager as a practice player for the American team over the last year. "A lot of kids these days know how to hit the ball, but they're not great tennis players," McEnroe has said. "Sam understands how to play the game. He understands how to use the court and how to move. He's got a big serve, a very big forehand, a good two-handed backhand. And he's got a good head on his shoulders."

Ticket packages to the 2007 event are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 561-330-6000. The Reserved Series package for all tournament sessions is $250 while the Weekender package—including the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals—is $200.
